I’m going to come back and revisit this now that I’ve talked with one of your developers more, and have a better idea of how to extend functionality. This is an absolute hack, that works, but it is not even remotely elegant.

This is very cool–we appreciate your contributions and are excited to have input from someone with an interest in the GIS community. It’s an area we’ve talked about but thus far not had specific features for.

I was just at OSCON, and talked with the SUSE linux guys. Supposedly SUSE Linux 11 SP1 has a beta version of new drivers, and Microsoft is supposed to be releasing the final version within a week or so. This should resolve any issues with new kernel versions, and is also supposed to make things just generally faster.

Used this on CentOS 5.5 and it worked well. Thanks! This prevents the need to use the Legacy Network Adapter altogether.

A note: if you also xorg-x11-server-sdk and rpm-build to the list of yum install packages, the Satori inputvsc driver will also build/install without a hitch, for anyone who finds this post who is struggling with getting a mouse working in Hyper-V.

I have been thinking about this topic a lot since seeing the same episode. I bring it up about every month or so with new people I meet. The response is invariably the lack of maturity to make such decisions. I don’t see that as a stumbling block, voting requires effort, if a teenager takes it seriously enough to vote they are probably as well informed as any adult.

A few things:
– Make sure to do a full install of office.
– create a user for the service, and make sure to open word at least once with that user
– configure the service to use the specific user you created
there are major differences between what is needed for IIS6 and for IIS7 as well – which are you on?

I am trying to get a web service to save word docs as PDFs. My code works fine in my unit tests, but not when I call it directly from IIS. Did you need to do any further configuration of DCOM, IIS or file system security to get your code to work? I have tried your code, but it doesn’t work. The Word object is created just fine, but the call to app.Documents.Open always returns null.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Nick – I have a newish version based on this rev that is now using the Pear MDB2 class so it’s db agnostic. I fixed the loadersmall.gif and loader.gif that is mentioned in the previous post.
